All three
pieces have the same target audience and have been designed with their
preferences in mind. The target audience reffered to are Taygan's existing and potential fans who generically like indie or singer/songwriter music and are aged between 13 and 24. These preferences were established through extensive
market research; peer feedback; consideration of trends and stereotypes; and personal
opinion.
The poster
and digipack are based on the same imagery and therefore have an obvious visual
similarity. This has a positive effect on the branding and potential sales of
the product, as the image becomes more recognizable leading to higher awareness
and more prospective sales. The after effects carried out on the images are
also almost identical keeping the final pieces as alike as possible.
The lyric
book inside the digi pack draws further parallels between the video and digi
pack as the photos taken are from the second location shown in the video: the
TV studio. This means that the mise-en-scene is the same and that identifiable
aspects can be seen in the video after viewing the lyric book or visa versa. Regularly
pull focuses and glare are used to create more aesthetically pleasing footage
in the video, to generate further similarities the same techniques have been
considered when taking the photos so that the pieces are more cohesive.
However in
keeping with industry conventions the poster and digi pack bare only minimal
resemblance to the video itself. The Banksy inspired imagery doesn’t feature in
the video at all and is instead unique to the print based pieces designed in
the project. This breaks up the repetitiveness of three identical pieces whilst
still allowing likenesses to shine through and tie the pieces together.
The blue circles indicate the sections of text that
use the same font "basicl"; as you can see the same typography is
frequently used creating uniformity and an identifiable link between both the
poster and the digi pack. This sans typeface is ideal as it visually reflects
the style of music through its simplicity and is also easy to read. Furthermore
the style of text is similar to that shown on other indie albums like Of
Monsters and Men's "My Head Is An Animal" helping to identify the
album as an indie or singer/songwriter album to the public. All of the text in
this font is uppercase which was intentional despite being a present of the
font as it implies importance and draws the views eye more readily, encouraging
higher sales.
However the pink and green
circles highlight sections of text that are dissimilar to the rest of the text,
adding interest. The text shown in the pink ring is the same "basicl"
font which has been elongated making it more aesthetically pleasing and allowing
it to utilize the space created by the photo and message better. As a result
the adapted typography connotes a more stereotypically indie style often seen
on indie merchandise; but looked odd when applied to the rest of the text. The
green loop shows a script style typography called "Handwriting- Dakota” which
as the name suggests portrays a handwritten style that evokes a sense of
sentiment and intimacy because it adds a more personal element to the message.
The areas circled in purple demonstrate that Taygan is
not only present in the pieces but the crux of them this creates a reoccurring
theme and a common link amongst the pieces. This portrays Taygan in a more
friendly way and makes her more recognizable to her fans which helps her build
up a rapport with them encouraging new fans in the process.
The red loops highlight
areas of the designs that resemble sections of the video, for example the
silhouette style photography; the glare; the light disks and finally the soft
focus image- all of which alluding to the video.
Both the poster and the cover and back of the digi pack are recognisably similar (indicated by the yellow arrows) and therefore have similar colour schemes: black, red and a cream brown. This is not the only connection because the three pieces indicated also have a similar layout and are framed by darker borders, like the stage in Mumford and Son's "Little Lion Man" video- once again hinting towards the indie genre.
The theme of love is present throughout the video, the poster and the digi pack as it is pivotal to the song and lyrics as it is the element that makes listeners connect with it and Taygan making it more appealing on an emotive level. The hearts shown one the Banksy inspired pieces showcase a heart shape which is symbolic of love. The photos in the lyric book clearly show some of the emotions stereotypically associated with love; as does the video which also demonstrates a love story of sorts.
